All The Escapist really asked for was a fake news story about fake news that they’d made up to show you could match their house style. I gave it a shot. Having never heard of Infinity Blade at the time or having played Gears of War in approx three years. How about a few PC releases Epic?
Gears of War: Infinite Announced
In a somewhat shocking move; Epic Games and Table Interactive have announced a crossover of their two franchises, Gears of War and Infinity Blade, as a Kinect title for release “sooner than you’d expect”
According to design director Cliff Bleszinski, Epic had been looking into this sort of title for a long time but hadn’t wanted to make a simple target range style shooter with little to no character interaction beyond point and shoot. In an apparent stroke of genius, mixing the motion controls and Unreal Engine development knowledge of the two companies will allow this.
Cliffy B even revealed some story details, explaining that the focus will be on a post Gears of War 2 Marcus as he discovers a fragment of the titular weapon. He also said that the “gaps” in Infinity Blade’s storyline – purposely left to maintain a sense of mystery about the series – will be filled “in an incredibly exciting way”
This isn’t the sort of announcement that we receive on a daily basis around here and one that makes me pinch myself to check that the heat hasn’t taken its toll and I’m not actually lying slumped over my keyboard, mumbling about crazy tie-ins. However, with promises of Gears 3 unlocks from “certain milestones in Infinite” and the aforementioned “soon” release date, this project seems to be a reality. Plus, we checked, and it’s not April 1st.
